Days in this new world, and he still can't sleep. Gansey knows it's bad for him. It's taking too much of a toll, and he knows it. So far, he's only managed to catch the odd hour here and there, usually when dawn has already come, and always when his body is just too tired to continue.
It doesn't help that most of the ways he usually has to deal with this are trapped at home, where Gansey would like to be.
He's been tossing and turning for hours. Now, he's sitting up, finally accepting that it won't happen tonight.
[ Blue's never been as bad as Gansey, but she's never been that good either.
This place just exacerbates it. Days or not, it's not home. And she feels the absence of him with every tick of the clock in her room.
She ends up staring at the window for longer than she knows. She lost count of the minutes. It's only the soft buzz of her phone that stirs her. She reaches out, picks up her phone, and slides it on. ]
[ Gansey is very quiet about settling against her door. He makes sure that there's quiet from the three other rooms, and then pads across to hers. His fingers trail against the wod for a moment, before tapping lightly. ]
[ She shouldn't have been waiting for that sound. Shouldn't have been watching the minutes pass until the minute came that brought him with it. She lets out a soft sigh before she leans against the door. ]
[ What do you do when you have possibly the worst proof possible that someone's friend is alive? Text it to them, of course. In such a massive asshole manner cause spoilers, that's Dorian. Why put it on the network when you can send people individual texts and cause individual worry? (plus, understandably, he's not putting this trainwreck picture where his boyfriend can see it).
So, attached to the text, is a selfie: Dorian's grinning at the camera, a shit-eating grin, his face just absolutely covered in blood. Ronan Lynch, very much alive, stands behind him, looking kind of traumatized. What he's holding (a bloodied tire iron) is barely visible, but if you squint, you can see it. Most notably, the raven monster is also in frame. It's not doing anything. It's barely in frame, like it had been trying to idle away from the two, but it's still recognizably the raven thing. A crappy convenience store is visible behind the three of them. ]
It takes awhile for her to respond. For her to process. She thinks about the fact that not that long ago, she was staring at Ronan's dead body. Now she's staring at his living body. Alongside Dorian's face. A face that's earned a spot on her shitlist lately. ]
[ And, not so long after the Dorian Gray shitshow - maybe 15 minutes - there's a text from Kitty. It's urgent enough that she doesn't even bother with spelling, punctuation, any of it. Or fixing the autocorrect. ]
Ronan is alive The body was a fake His still going after the bird In am sorry not to be more delicate in going after them rn and i know that you're the one who will be best at beaking the news to the others Last sighting De Chima Starbucks 13th&maple headed south running
[ The response she gets is a picture message. One showing Dorian and Ronan together, birdmonster behind them. Very obviously a selfie from Dorian's perspective. ]
Hes going to be dead soon, though. So I'm seeing that body more like a premonition for his future.
Gansey is genuinely struggling with words. He hasn't got much of a voice for it, but he cannot, cannot do this by text. He can barely do it at all. He sends the same message to them all, because it's the only thing he thinks is right.
Not the only thing he thinks is fair. None of this is fair. ]
I found Ronan.
[ He sounds cracked, shaken, and unlike himself. He can't make it sound any better. ]
He's -
It's.
[ He tries again. ]
He's gone. We were too late, it -
I'm sending a map. I can't leave him here, I can't leave him like this. I need you to come. Will you come?
[ That night, Gansey finds Blue's door earlier than usual. He sits down with less preamble, less gentle checking that she's there. He knows she'll be there.
Or maybe it's just that he very much hopes she is. He leans his head to the side and against the door, putting his mouth close to the edge. ]
Sunday: A bag of gelt Monday: A ball of yarn that changes color and knitting needles Tuesday: A dreidel made of clay Wednesday: A jar full of green and blue glitter that sticks to skin but comes off easily with water and sticks to nothing else Thursday: A stuffed bear about the size of a quarter Friday: A box of delicious cookies Saturday: A notepad with the words Gansey could you ___________ Sunday: A box of blue and white fairy lights
[ With Gansey Prime absent for the night, the clone he's left behind in his place soon grows hungry for company. They had been working together, researching and making plans, but with all of that disrupted, this version of Gansey is at a loose end. He also finds himself thinking about Blue Sargent more than he probably should, and to that end, it's her he goes looking for.
In fairness, it doesn't take long to find her. Having established that her room was empty, he comes upon her in the living room, and with a smile, he invites himself onto the sofa beside her. ]
Hello, Jane.
[ He looks very cheerful. The night is looking a good deal brighter now. ]
[ Blue wasn't doing too much when Gansey comes to find her. She flipped through the channels, watching some news here or there about Heropa but trying not to focus too much on it and flipping to other things for distraction.
She's watching a DIY show when Gansey sits next to her, looking up at him. She shakes her head. ]
Just trying to find something to watch that isn't the news.
[ It's some hours after the kidnapping has been announced. This isn't the first time Gansey has tried, but it's the first time he's successful. His voice comes through Blue's phone, tapping into the Network through his mind.
It's faint. He's not used to this. He's not even convinced it will work. ]
[ Blue can barely focus on anything. Too many things happening at once. Only one thought going through her head: Find Gansey. She has to find him and Ronan. They have to be safe.
At first she almost misses the voice. But it continues. Persists. She stares at her phone, then gingerly picks it up. ]
[ He hasn't seen her in days. That's not surprising, they both deal with things differently, but Adam still cares just as much about Blue as he does the others and so he's been worried.
[ She's not really been avoiding him. Technically. Maybe a part of her is. She just can't keep still either. She can't sleep. She can't eat. She just chases leads and offers support where ever she can. ]
[ When Blue starts to go to her room, she realizes there's something on her door. At first she thinks someone was looking for her and left a note instead of texting. But when she gets closer she realizes it's a picture. Of her.
Her cheeks turn red a second later as she recognizes the scene instantly. She remembers that day too clearly. She takes the picture and the note in hand and smiles. A clue to join him?
She tucks the note away and carefully carries the picture with her as she grabs her combat boots to head out to the forest. On her way she takes out her phone. ]
Inhumanly late at night
Days in this new world, and he still can't sleep. Gansey knows it's bad for him. It's taking too much of a toll, and he knows it. So far, he's only managed to catch the odd hour here and there, usually when dawn has already come, and always when his body is just too tired to continue.
It doesn't help that most of the ways he usually has to deal with this are trapped at home, where Gansey would like to be.
He's been tossing and turning for hours. Now, he's sitting up, finally accepting that it won't happen tonight.
And he does the thing he's been trying not to do.
He texts her. ]
